Kosaten

Acrylic on japanese paper, 2022

Photography: Mas-aqui

The Japanese word «intersections» baptizes Esther Mir’s most recent collection. A series of pieces defined by the regular succession of horizontal and vertical lines, in different thicknesses and the chromatic burst of invented tones, unique, unmistakable, from mixtures that reveal a deep mastery of color.

Crossroads that reveal themselves without preparation or premeditation, in a game of depths that generates a hypnotic sensation of movement. A series with works in three sizes that, in any case, are not born from scratch: the colors sprout on a richly textured background: Japanese paper acquired in Kyoto.

On this base that reaffirms her links with Japanese culture, the artist improvises with total freedom, applying the colors without losing sight of her points of reference. Classical gold, antique gold, Renaissance gold. And, once again, geometry. Free brushstrokes that, nevertheless, link the different collections and give a deep coherence to the whole work.
