Ikebana

Ikebana

Acrylic on japanese paper, 2019

Photography: Jose Hevia

Japanese culture, always present without the need to invoke it, also inspires this latest collection, named after the traditional Japanese art of floral composition. Ikebana brings together a set of pieces that, in terms of shape and color, mark a turning point.

In them, the strength of color is imposed, which from the mixtures of natural colors flowed freely during the creative process. Gold, silver and copper coexist with reds, greens, blues, in a wide diversity of tones that contrasts with the chromatic containment of previous works. Among them, old papers from Japanese books emerge again, which are used as a patchwork to soften the colors and accentuate the harmony of the composition.

As a technical postulate, Ikebana responds to a challenge: to use geometry as a creative base. Taming the rigidity of stripes, circles, squares to transform them into flowers, leaves and branches that express movement. In the image of Japanese floral art, where no detail is considered superfluous, the vases have great importance and have been worked as a central element of the work. Interior design meets artistic creation.
