Japanese Tattoo

Japanese Tattoo

Acrylic on japanese paper, 2020-2022

Photography: Mas-aqui

Begun during the confinement, this series of portraits takes again as canvas the pages of old books acquired in antique markets in Japan. A stock acquired just before the pandemic, carefully selected according to the same criteria that give unity and harmony to the artist’s previous paintings on this surface.

Calligraphic canvases on which time has left a patina of color, Japanese tattoos that show their millenary personality on the skin of the women portrayed.
Japanese Tattoo is a collection in process that for the moment is composed only by women.

Haru, Kumiko, Yuki, Michiko. Each one with her name, each one with her personality, in a unique gesture that singles them out.

Powerful portraits of introspective women, who let us intuit a rich inner universe. Characters that reflect the artist’s training as a designer, endowed with the attributes that weave a firm yet subtle thread between all the pieces of her work: the unmistakable presence of the color gold, the geometries that intertwine to come to life in the form of deep-gazing eyes, lips that weave a firm yet subtle thread between all the pieces of her work.
By deep-set eyes, lips that keep secrets, elegant hairstyles, and rich prints on dresses that barely hint at each other.
A reflective collection in which each piece springs from a previous study, an intense work of preparation and previous sketches. Women wrapped in a halo of mystery, who is capable of filling any room with their presence.
